PRESS
STATEMENT 29/10/06 - Re. CRAIG BREWSTER
It is with
regret that the Federation of Dundee United Supporters' Clubs hear of
yet another managerial casualty at Tannadice.
Craig Brewster
returned to Tannadice as a United hero. Every United fan hoped upon
hope that he would be the man to lead us back to a position of respectability.
Unfortunately
results under his tenure have failed to live up to the expectations
of the supporters of DUFC.
Despite
the Clubs intention of long term commitment to the managerial position,
unacceptable results & the threat of relegation have taken precedence
over intention & sentimentality. The Board has been left with no
choice but to take this action for the long term benefit of the Club.
We, as
representatives of our fans, believe that the Chairman and Directors
of DUFC have a massive task in appointing a Manager who can finally
take our Club forward to the position of respectability we crave. We
have endured countless false dawns in light of far too many recent changes
at this level. The need to make the correct appointment this time around
is critical to retain the confidence of our supporters.

Press
Release from Executive Committee of the Federation of Dundee United
Supporters Clubs, Sunday 06th August 2006.
'The Federation
of Dundee United Supporters Clubs wish to express their anger and disappointment
with regard to the comments made by Glasgow Rangers Security Chief,
Mr. Lawrence McIntyre on BBC Radio Scotland's `Your Call` programme
on Saturday 05th August in the aftermath of the Glasgow Rangers FC versus
Dundee United FC SPL match at Ibrox.
The fact
that a paid Employee of Glasgow Rangers Football Club saw fit to go
on National airwaves to criticize a travelling United support of around
300 in a crowd of 50394 for alleged `sectarian chants` whilst ignoring
a couple of rousing renditions of `Derry's Walls` shows ignorance and
paranoia in the extreme. Attempting to deflect blame for the situation
Rangers FC face in curbing this behaviour does nothing to contribute
to solving the problem.
The song
he made reference to in the phone-in was `The Billy Boys` to the tune
`Georgia` of which the version sung by United fans has no sectarian
content whatsoever. Dundee United fans have NEVER indulged in any form
of sectarian or bigoted chanting and long may this continue.
Having
noted several comments in today's newspapers from Mr McIntyre with regard
to this alleged chanting, we accept that as this tune is inextricably
linked with Glasgow Rangers fans, he was defending his fans from potential
accusations of sectarian singing and fully understand his reasoning
behind those quotes. However the accusations made on the radio programme
against our fans were totally false, misguided and a slur on our fans
reputations, therefore we call for Mr. McIntyre to offer the supporters
of Dundee United FC, particularly those who attended Ibrox a full apology.
The Federation
of Dundee United Supporters Clubs wish to applaud the efforts of Glasgow
Rangers Football Club and affiliated Supporters Bodies' current campaign
to eradicate the element within their support who participate in this
disgusting habit of religious & sectarian chanting and we applaud
the approach and vast improvement with regard to this at Saturdays game.
We hope to be able to note likewise conduct from the visiting support
when they visit Tannadice on November 5th.
